SR Guides: the ultimate silkroad online guide
1. The Basics 2. Character Guide 3. Leveling Guide 4. Alchemy Guide 5. Triangle Conflict Guide 1.0 The Basics Silkroad Online is a very unique game in many ways. The skill system is different from most games. In Silkroad Online, from now on refered to as SRO, there is NO classes. It is a classless skill system. Those familiar with the old Ultima Online experienced this method of play. Essentially when you start the game you don't select being a warrior or a mage or anything. That "class" feel is developed over your characters life. Check section 2 about character development. 1.1 What is a Triangle Conflict? Silkroad Online has whats called a Triangle Conflict. As you may guess from the name the game is based on a time period of China and the West known as the Silk Road Era. This was the time when silk and other goods were transported along, you guessed it, the silk road to and from Europe and China. The conflict stems out of one of 3 sub classes you can play as once you reach level 20. These classes are the Thief, Hunter and Trader. They are open PvP Classes. Thieves do what thieves do, they kill Traders and fight for their lives against hunters. Hunters protect the Traders while they move goods along the silk road killing thieves as they go. Traders are in it mostly for the money, either hiring hunters or just fending off thieves themself while trying to get to the next town. Check section 5 on the conflict. 1.2 Alchemy Alchemy is a staple of the game. It allows characters to take existing equipment and potentially make it better. Alchemy starts with tablets and elements and eventually ends up being a nice bonus on your equipment, if you're lucky. More detailed information can be found in section 4. 2.0 Character Guide Before you start a character it is good to think ahead about what you want your character to be, what kind of weapon you want to use and what methods do you want to use to kick some !@#$%^&*. Here I will outline the basics of character development and what is considered a good "build". A build is a way of developing a character in a strict sense to be the best that they can be. In SRO there are a limited amount of attributes but a vast amount of skills. The two attributes or stats are Strength and Intelligence. The best character builds focus on one or the other. There are key reasons behind choosing one or the other and not splitting yourself up in any ratio. A pure intelligence character has the potential to do a lot of damage using spells. Spell damage is based solely on intelligence and the level of the skill. This however makes a pure intelligence character have less in the way of hit points and physical defense but gives them a limitless amount of mana to spend and a high resistance to magic. A pure strength character has, in general, less damage potential than a pure intelligence character yet has a lot more hitpoints to withstand damage. A pure strength character has a higher physical defense and a weaker magical defense in contrast to the intelligence character. By now you are may be asking yourself, why shouldn't I build a hybrid of both strength and intelligence? The reasons are quite simple. You won't do enough damage to kill a pure strength character and you won't have enough hitpoints to take high amounts of damage from a pure intelligence character. If you follow my advice and play through the game as this guide outlines you will see why what I do and how I do it is a winning strategy, for now, have faith. Lets quickly cover armor types because they are essential to a build. There are three types of equipment, Armor , Protector and Garment. Armor has high physical defense and low magical defense and has no movement speed bonus. Protector has a balanced physical defense and magical defense and a 10% bonus to movement speed. Garment has a low physical defense and a high magical defense and a 20% bonus to movement speed. For the moment lets forget about protector gear. In my opinion protector gear is worthless because of the same principals that drive characters to be either a strength or an intelligence character, it has balance. Armor types are essential because they allow you to add balance to your character's weakness. For example, a character based purely on strenth will have a lower magic defense. This can be counterbalanced by using Garment armor type. They also allow a strength based character who generally won't have a ranged attack to close in on an enemy 20% faster due to the speed bonus. The opposite applies to intelligence based characters. They can wear armor to make up for their weakness to physical attacks. This gives them an edge fighting weapon users. They don't need the speed bonus because they have ranged attacks and if someone flees it is likely they will die before they get out of range entirely. Early in the game I suggest wearing armor always because it helps you grind through the monsters which 95% of which do physical damage. At a higher level you can switch to whatever balances your character the best. 2.1 Character Builds I will provide 3 simple builds that are effective in any type of combat situation. These builds are mainly meant for PvP which is the bread and butter of this game. I will not go into detail which skills to pick exactly. That alone might double the size of this guide. I am simply giving you a firm outline to work off of with some simple concepts. If you understand those concepts then picking the proper skills shouldn't be very difficult. The Strength Glaiver Stat Points: ALL IN STRENGTH Skill Tree : Glaive/Spear Fire Lightning (Any of your choice) The strength glaiver is an extremely popular character. Most likely because its a VERY good build. In the end this character will end up having an extremely high damage and be able to attack fast. Another advantage is the 12 to 14 thousand hitpoints this character ends up with. There are many other skill trees you can add as a fourth skill. Some people like Ice because it allows them to take the physical damage resistances that come with it. Some people like Force for extra mana and party based skills such as healing and resurection. In the end I'd say the best lonewolf character would be good with Ice if skill points allow. The Sword and Shield Mage Stat Points: ALL IN INTELLIGENCE Skill Tree : Sword Glaive/Spear Fire Lightning This build is difficult because it requires a lot of skill points. It is one of the highest damage dealing builds in the game though. Some people argue why I add Glaive/Spear to the Skill tree. There is only one skill to take within this tree, the passive HP bonus skill. By level 70 this skill will give you an additional 1000 or so HP. This is a great help to a character with low HP. In the end this character will most likely wear armor. I personally prefer armor on this type of character. This character is a killing machine that requires a large amount of mana potions. When supplied with large amounts of mana this character can go for hours. The reason this character uses a sword/shield versus using a spear for magic damage is EXTREMELY important for this build. The block bonus and armor bonus that a shield gives you is HUGE. When a shield blocks it will negate ALL damage done by the attack, whether the attack did 10 or 10 thousand damage, you will take none. When fighting a weapon user and even other magic users it can be very annoying to them when they see all of their shots being blocked. The block alone makes up for this characters lack of HP. The Strength Archer Stat Points: ALL IN STRENGTH Skill Tree: Bow Fire Lightning (Any of your choice) This build can be fun to play because of the rapid rate at which archers can shoot. This character has quite a few advantages but falls short damage wise of the above two classes. The base skill trees are Bow, for obvious reasons, Fire, for imbues and magic defense skills, and Lightning, for Grasswalk primarily. This class being strength based will give you as many hitpoints as the glaiver. You will be wearker to magic so wearing garment type armor is suggested. Both this and the Strength glaiver have the fire tree which has a skill for added magic defense. In PvP that skill is a must. Some archers like to focus heavily in Ice and for a few decent reasons. The ice skills allow you to freeze and slow your opponent, which is good but of the 3 force classes ice does the least ammount of damage. Considdering this character already lacks the damage potential of some of the other classes it makes more sense to pick fire for the pure damage output. _________________________________________________________________
